“Provide spiritual opportunities for growth, promote fellowship and Christian service through projects that benefit our Church, its members and the surrounding community and build bonds of friendship through social activities.”
Year End Update
Another year of camaraderie, fun, work and spiritual fellowship from the Women’s Guild has come to a close. This year was quite different than year’s past given the restrictions presented by COVID-19. Our physical year was cut short with our last meeting in February rather than June. To me, February is a distant memory considering all of the ramifications we have dealt with due to the pandemic. Although our year was short in duration, it was long on benefit and we are pleased with our successes. In following our Mission Statement we maintained our ability: to help with meal preparation for the College ministry the third Wednesday of every month, to host a luncheon and celebrate Holy Cross Women’s Center Graduation program in October, to continue our Christmas Caroling at the Nazareth House in December, and to facilitate two successful events in February - the Women’s Retreat and our annual Cookie Sale. These two events enabled us to make a substantial donation ($2,652.00) to St. Paul’s Catholic Newman Center general fund.
As this years’ president of the guild I am so happy we accomplished so much given our condensed calendar. Our meeting format allowed us opportunity to have a special speaker come to most of our meetings providing us with insight into the other ministries within our community and at our Newman Center. To the speakers, please accept my deepest gratitude, your presentations were thoughtful, informative and well received. Unfortunately, our outside speakers scheduled for March and April had to be postponed due to the virus. It is my sincere desire that the fall season will allow for us to gather once again and continue in our journey of fellowship and service.
Unfortunately, due to our inability to meet, we were unable to move forward with a change in new leadership roles and host elections. Therefore, to commence this next year the current Board will remain in place until we can meet, nominate and vote in a new Board in the Fall. Positions open are: President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer; those that wish to be nominated are encouraged to be at our first meeting when gathering restrictions are lifted.
Lastly, I would like to encourage women of the parish to sincerely look into becoming a member of the Guild. Success is measured not only by what the Guild contributes either monetarily or by other means of gift giving within the parish and community; active continual growth in membership is absolutely necessary for the Guild to continue. The commitment for membership is small; the benefits are great. I encourage all the women of the parish to consider joining. I truly believe our contribution to the parish is greatly appreciated; but more importantly our commitment to grow in friendship, share in fellowship and be active participants in our spiritual home is something that cannot be adequately described. Those are the intangibles that bring about great joy.
I wish you all a wonderful summer. Stay safe, physical (as opposed to social) distance, wash your hands frequently, don’t touch your face and wear a mask when appropriate!!!!!
All meetings are canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
